Rising from Ground Zero

The Wharton Club of Boston is pleased to announce an upcoming event featuring Wharton Senior Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Management Gregory Shea, Ph. D, who will discuss his upcoming book, Rising from Ground Zero: 9/11 and the FDNY’s Path through Crisis to Transformation. Through 90 hours of interviews with firefighters at FDNY and other responders, the book tells the compelling story of how the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) rebuilt and transformed itself in the aftermath of 9/11. The format of the talk will be primarily Q&A as the author has found people have varied connections to 9/11 and wish to direct the discussions in a personal context.

The event will take place on September 17 from 6-8 pm at the offices of De Gruyter Brill, 121 High Street, 3rd Fl, Boston MA 02110.

The cost to attend is $40 and will include a book for the first 30 signups. De Gruyter Brill will be providing light refreshments.

Gregory P. Shea, Ph.D., consults, teaches, researches, and writes in the areas of organizational and individual change, leadership and its development, innovation, and group effectiveness. He has worked extensively in multiple industries and with senior leadership including boards of directors as well as deep within organizations. He is a Senior Fellow at the Wharton School’s Center for Leadership and Change Management and at the Penn Implementation Science Center, Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the Wharton School, President of Shea & Associates, Inc. He served on Wharton’s faculty for over 40 years and as Academic Director for the Johnson and Johnson/Wharton Program for Health System CEO’s and for fourteen years for the Johnson and Johnson/Wharton Fellows Program for Nurse Executives. His awards include an Excellence in Teaching Award from Wharton. He is a member of the Academy of Management and the American Psychological Association. He has appeared multiple times on Wharton Radio and various podcasts.
