Mike Jesanis is an advisor to companies, governments and non-profits in traditional and emerging energy fields. He is a principal of Serrafix, a firm dedicated to helping cities, together with their businesses and residents, significantly reduce their energy consumption, reducing their carbon footprints and improving the quality of life in cities. Serrafix has provided advisory services in cities as diverse as Charleston, South Carolina, Milwaukee, and New York City, and recently completed work with ten cities in Massachusetts. In addition to his work at Serrafix, Mike advises startups and venture capital firms on energy marketplace issues.
Prior to joining Serrafix, Mike was President and Chief Executive Officer of National Grid USA and a director of National Grid plc. During his twenty-three year career with National Grid and its predecessor, New England Electric System (NEES), Mike led a transformation of a small regional integrated utility into the country's second largest energy delivery company and the growth engine for a multi-national energy company.
Mike currently serves on the Board of Directors of NiSource Inc., a utility holding company based in Indiana, and is a member of the Audit, Governance, and Environmental Health and Safety (Chair) Committees. Mike also serves on the Board of Directors of Ameresco, Inc., an energy services company based in Framingham, Massachusetts, and is a member of the Audit (Chair) and Compensation Committees.
Mike is a trustee and Chair of the Audit Committee of Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, where he earned bachelors and masters degrees in mathematics. Mike also earned an MBA with high distinction from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and received an honorary doctorate from Becker College, where he served as a trustee for 12 years, including four as board chair. Mike is also a past board member of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, Jobs for Massachusetts, and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
Mike and his wife Janet have two grown children, and are residents of Sunapee, New Hampshire.
